For this assignment I required my students to focus on the element of value.  I projected this image upside down and out of focus on an LCD projector and asked them to draw what they saw.  Over the next several days the students were forced to draw the shapes and shadow as they saw them coming into focus.  The pictures below are the finished results of this assignment.
